AN EXHIBITION ON SHAMANISM IN TENDE (Italy) THAT INTERPETS
An advertisement has been published concerning an exhibition on shamanism in Tende, based essentially on the collection of the Fondazione Sergio Poggianella. We are quite surprised to see that a Mongolian Citipati mask worn in Buddhist or Bön rituals has been used to illustrate this exhibition, which has absolutely nothing to do with shamanism.
This clearly creates confusion in the minds of visitors to the exhibition.
One might have expected more rigour in the choices made. This does not bode well for the explanations that accompany the objects.
This is all the more regrettable given that the exhibition is sponsored by eminent people from Venice's ca'Foscari University. However, given that the scientists behind the project are opposed to it, we can only hope that the notes accompanying the objects are of a high standard.
